Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, announced the strengthening of the state security strategy where she will double the number of security agents in her administration, creating a yearly hiring framework for more agents on the State Security Citizen Forces (FESC).

During the first 2023 edition of “Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar”, the Secretary of Citizen Security of Baja California, General Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán, highlighted that one of the pillars of security public policies is the coordination with municipal governments, the State’s Attorney General Office (FGE), and federal organizations.

This agency is focused on recovering peace for families and preventing crime, creating a place of peace after decades of governments which did not apply comprehensive or functional policies.

“Today we are moving forward together, all of us: the government of Mexico, the municipalities, the state government, we are working together promoting social programs to decrease the inequalities that promote violence,” the governor stated in her speech to Baja Californian society.

As such, the Governor of Baja California emphasized the creation of the Secretariat of Citizen Security which, in its first year, consolidated itself by delivering important results regarding the seizure of firearms, arresting more than 2,000 people, the forfeiture of thousands of kilograms of substances, and carrying out more than 2,500 preventive actions.

Among the progress made, there’s the creation of the Violet Squad whose goal is to support the victims of family and partner violence, as well as violence against women. The agents who are part of this group have received positive comments and gratitude from communities.

Marina del Pilar emphasized that to move forward with the strengthening of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, General Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán was assigned as the head of this agency as he is a key figure with more than 34 years of experience at the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA).

“General Aguilar, you have the complete trust and support from the three levels of government as you have enough elements and resources to create an effective strategy to provide security to our families,” the governor told the new secretary.

In his speech, Aguilar Durán stated that the five pillars that will be the framework of his management as the head of SSCBC will be preventive actions, citizen participation, reduction of crime rates, application of police technologies, and the professionalization of the services provided to Baja Californian society.
