Rain causes street connecting Vía Rápida with Los Olivos to collapse

Other roads have been affected by weather conditions

Intense rains in the region caused the embankment located next to the bridge that connects Vía Rápida Poniente with Los Olivos to collapse on Sunday, January 1st.

The paved embankment had been repaired by the municipality in an improvised manner to clear out traffic in the area after the bridge sustained grave damages and was closed, which is why repairs are still ongoing.

The Secretariat of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA) stated that repair work at the embankment will take two weeks. It should be noted that the road had been closed as a preventive measure on Saturday, December 31 due to heavy rain forecasts, which is why no vehicle was affected.

In addition, the Tijuana Municipal Administration stated that descending traffic from Blvd. Gato Bronco (Mesa de Otay-Arroyo Alamar) will be interrupted due to the collapse of its pluvial drain caused by the high amount of debris that ended up there; they also urged people to avoid these heavy materials and debris.

The removal of garbage and the cleaning of sediments and drain grids are being handled by brigades and teams from several different agencies.
