Tijuana native fencers will prepare in 2023 to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Paris

Baja Californian fencers maintained their supremacy during 2022

The city of Tijuana keeps bringing honor to the name of Baja California in sports. The state has reasserted itself as a sports leader in fencing, thanks to the talent that the border city produces, which has brought it international renown.

This was stated by Román Caso Espinosa, president of the Fencing Association of Baja California, who claimed that 2022 was a very interesting year because it was the first year where they could generally develop sports, with more contact and freedom after the pandemic.

“It was a year where we noticed a lot of heart, enthusiasm, and silent preparation from all the athletes of Baja California. Which is why in the results of the CONADE games, Baja California demonstrated its supremacy by winning first places, “he said.

In children, young, and adult categories, the fencers of Baja California won medals both nationally and internationally, bringing renown to the name of Baja California.

Internationally, Caso Espinosa said, our fencers shone by ranking nationally and then carrying the colors of Mexico at the U17/U20/Senior categories. “This confirms their preparation, the competitiveness of Baja California, and the dedication of our athletes, trainers, and families who support their children on this journey to excellence,” he said.

He also said that this motivates them to continue this path full of efforts, as next year will be the beginning of the cycle in order to qualify for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. “We are very happy with the results and proud of our athletes, which is why, in coordination with the government of Baja California and the Institute of Sports of the state, we will be preparing ourselves in 2023,” the president of the Fencing Association of BC concluded.
