False alarm! After almost 3 years of being closed, it seems the reopening of the PedWest port of entry, also known as ‘El Chaparral’, still has no scheduled date. A few hours ago, it was announced that it would be reopened on Wednesday, December 21 at 6 AM, but then it was confirmed that this reopening would not take place.

A few hours ago, in a statement by the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, they spoke about how the port of entry would open just in time for people who still need to do some last-minute Christmas shopping.

Initially the reopening of PedWest was only for traffic going north, for the 7 days of the week, from 6 AM to 2 PM.

This decision took place around 48 hours ago and the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce was notified. However, the decision by the US Supreme Court last night to not lift Title 42 caused the PedWest reopening to be stopped.

Though all this information was true, the fact that the commitment to get rid of Title 42 was rescinded means that “El Chaparral” is still waiting to operate again.
