Ana Lilia Durán gets close to a medal; she will now prepare for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris

The Mexicali native athlete debuted in the adult women category at the IWF World Championships, which took place in Bogota, Colombia last weekend. Ana Lilia won fourth place in the 64-kilogram division.

This Baja Californian sports talent won fourth place in the world by lift-weighting a total of 221 total kilograms, after lifting 99 kilos in the snatch and 122 in the clean and jerk. This competition was dominated by Chinese athlete, Xinyi Pei with 105 in the snatch and 128 in the clean and jerk for a total of 233 kilograms.

The only representative of Baja California, using the colors of Mexico in Bogota 2022, had a perfect competition during the snatch as she lifted 92, 96, and 99 kilos. In her first clean and jerk, she failed on her first 122 kilos, a weight that she was able to lift on her second try.

Ana Lilia Durán, who just came back to this sport in 2021, had her adult competition world debut with the chance of winning the bronze medal on her third try with 126 kilos, however, she came up short and ended up winning fourth place.

Chinese athlete Pei, who has won three gold medals left Thai Rattanahwam in 2nd place with 227 total kilos, and Colombian Nathalia Llamosa in 3rd place with 224.

Durán, a native from the Guadalupe Victoria community in Valle de Mexicali, was a young world champion in 2012 and came in 2nd place at the youth Olympics in 2016 which is why her comeback and future are very bright. In 2023, she is looking to classify in the 71-kilogram division for the Mexican National Team which will try to compete at the Central American Games and the 2023 Pan-American Games, with the final goal being the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
