The governor of Baja California Marina del Pilar stated during her speech today, November 16, in the city of Tijuana that taking care of the needs of seniors is an essential part of her commitments as state governor, adding that these groups have been historically vulnerable. This is why it is supremely important to take care of them.

During the 52nd edition of “Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar” that took place in Tijuana, the governor pointed out that prosperity can only be obtained when it is a result of taking care of those who have been forgotten for decades by insensitive governments.

“We worry about those who have worked all of their lives to provide opportunities for their families,” Marina del Pilar emphasized.

As such, she pointed out one of the most important examples of what she just mentioned, which is the universal aid program for people of 60 years of age or older, delivered alongside the government of Mexico thanks to the joint efforts made with President López Obrador.

She explained that, in October, the state government has allocated around 40 million pesos to make 2,600 bimonthly aid deliveries to 3,500 seniors between the ages of 60 and 64 and 11 months of age, as when they turn 65 years old, the federal administration takes care of delivering the aid.

“That’s how we are expanding the universe of people with pensions in the state, which are added to the more than 257,000 adults that receive their pension from the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador”, explained Marina del Pilar.

The governor said that to this pension one can also add another program that is also focused on the wellbeing of seniors, referring to the free cataract surgeries that the state provides.

Regarding this, the Secretary of Health of Baja California, José Adrián Medina Amarillas, highlighted that these procedures were suspended in the last three years, which is why their reactivation by the state government represents an important benefit for hundreds of people who are recovering their eyesight. The goal is to end the year with 500 surgeries performed.

“These two programs are a great example of what it means when we work together with Our Heart Above All to consolidate the transformation of Baja California,” stated Governor Marina del Pilar.
