A yearly increase of 3.2% was registered during the first semester of 2022, according to INEGI

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, governor of Baja California, highlighted that thanks to the coordination of the state administration with all economic industries, as well as the federal government’s continued support, the state’s economy still grows continuously.

The state governor explained that according to the Quarterly State Economic Activity Index (ITAEE), carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), during the first semester of 2022, Baja California had an annual growth of 3.2%, and several other indicators kept their positive trends during the third quarter of the year.

It should be noted that ITAEE is a joint index that offers an overview about the economic evolution of all states of Mexico.

For his part, the Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Honold Morales, explained that Baja California registered an annual growth of 2.8% in the second trimester of 2022, which accumulates from the 3.2% of growth in the year’s first semester.

The official explained that the primary sector was the one that boosted the dynamism of the first semester of 2022, with a yearly increase of 4.9%, according to original data, which ranks it in sixth place among Mexico’s states with the highest growth.

He added that, in that same period, the industrial sector obtained an annual increase of 3.6%. The activity that boosted the secondary sector was manufacturing, with a 5.2% increase.

Honold Morales stated that the creation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy and water and gas supplies via ducts to the consumer grew 2.3% in one year. On the other hand, the services industry had an annual increase of 2.8% where commerce and trade reached a growth of 8.2%.

Lastly, Marina del Pilar highlighted the commitment of the different economic industries for giving it their best and maintaining the economic dynamism that defines Baja California, which has positioned it as one of the best recovered states after the COVID-19 pandemic’s economic crisis.
