Governor Marina del Pilar speaks about the contribution of Chinese culture in Baja California

The governor highlighted the relevance of celebrating a China Day Festival at the state capital

Marina del Pilar was in the city of Mexicali today where she highlighted the value and wealth of a thousand-year-old and historical culture and the great contribution they have given to the different municipalities of Baja California. She also highlighted the promotion projects of this culture not only in Baja California, but in the rest of Mexico.

As such, the China Day Festival took place in Mexicali where, along with hundreds of Mexicali natives, the Coordinator of Regeneration Projects in Public Spaces, Carlos Torres Torres and the mayor of Mexicali, Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez, were present.

It should be noted that at this event the activity “La Uno para Mil” took place which consisted of breaking the record in serving traditional dish number one for 1,000 people; this was very celebrated by the event’s attendants.

During the festival, organized in cooperation with the state government of Baja California, the XXIV Municipal Administration of Mexicali, and Mexicali’s Chinese Association, Mexicali society was shown works of art and gastronomy from this Asian nation. There were activities for the whole family, which all are a part of the recovery of the city's first area.

In his participation at this festival’s inauguration, Torres Torres highlighted the value that the Chinese community has for the city of Mexicali, especially when it comes to the reactivation of the city’s Historic Downtown, as an area full of economic, social, and cultural dynamism. He thanked the entrepreneurs who have made it possible for this sector to be reinvigorated once more.

He also spoke about the tourist potential of La Chinesca, which will soon be named officially the first Barrio Mágico (Magical Neighborhood) of Mexico, by the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico presided by Miguel Torruco Marqués. This recognition will give this area great potential to become a state and national touristic reference.

For her part, Bustamante Martínez emphasized the possibilities that are offered by the coordination between the three levels of government to give Mexicali’s Historic Downtown a new look. Many benefits have been achieved for the community in the city’s first area, as well as the shopkeepers who have had the opportunity to open new businesses, reactivating the zone’s economy.

She also pointed out that the municipal administration, working together with the state government, will continue to promote the importance of Chinese culture in the construction of Mexicali and its society as it is known today, as well as the opportunities that it offers to continue making the capital of Baja California the dynamic city full of opportunities that it currently is.
