Marina del Pilar and the Secretary of the Interior support work by the National Guard

During the visit of the Secretary of the Interior Adán Augusto to Baja California, he spoke to the State Congress about the initiative that strengthens the armed forces regarding security matters

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, governor of Baja California, alongside the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, spoke about their support for the National Guard and its operations regarding public security matters. This occurred during a meeting at the State Congress of Baja California whose goal was to present the initiative of the reform to the National Guard decree. This reform by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, proposes to extend the intervention of this organization in civilian security matters until 2028.

López Hernández stated that this is the second state where he presents this issue as part of the initiative’s course. The intention, the secretary said, is to follow the legal pathway that will allow that the proper legislative process is undertaken, which is why, he acknowledged all and each of the representatives of Baja California who voted in favor of this initiative.

“What is this reform about? It is an amendment to Article 4 of the Constitution that increases the time that the National Guard, our armed forces, will be providing their services regarding security matters until 2028,” he explained. This task, he added, will be provided extraordinarily and it will be regulated, inspected, subordinated and complementary, as they will be trained on civilian police doctrines while also having a series of control mechanisms that will allow their job to be carried out more efficiently.

The secretary highlighted that most Baja Californians are in favor of the work carried out by the armed forces in order to maintain public order and congratulated the public policy decisions by Governor Marina del Pilar whose firm goal is to recover peace for all of the state’s inhabitants.

“That’s why we are here today: to reaffirm to the governor our commitment of working closely so that there is peace, so that there is security in Baja California, so that we are never ever afraid of our children playing in the streets, so we can breathe the beautiful smell of freedom and safety,” he emphasized.

In her message to lawmakers and Baja Californian society, Governor Marina del Pilar highlighted the value of the visit by Secretary Adán Augusto López Hernández, especially due to the coordination between both levels of government for the development and construction of the complete wellbeing of Baja Californian families. The governor emphasized that in the context of trying to renew the way of doing politics, that is how the initiative by President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador came to be. This initiative will allow the National Guard to continue strengthening local organizations in order to recover peace for all people after decades of failed policies.

“That is why today the personal and prioritized visit by the Secretary is so relevant, in order to present, debate, and defend an essential initiative by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador which creates the foundations to build peace and justice in our country. In Baja California, we know the fundamental role of the armed forces and the National Guard who have carried out their work professionally. They are the pillar to recover peace,” she said.

Marina del Pilar stated that this proposal has managed to get a broad consensus not only in both chambers at the Mexican Congress, but also in Mexican society at large who have found in the National Guard an ally for public security. This is why she is convinced that the State Congress of Baja California will support the proposal that is supported by most of the governors of Mexico.

“What you are going to vote for here, we will experience in the peace and tranquility of the streets of our state. For our part, you have our coordination and the best work we are doing in order to keep modernizing the protection and surveillance equipment in order to get peace,” Marina del Pilar concluded.

Subsequently, the Governor and the Secretary held a dialogue with the Mexicali Citizen Block, where they were able to hear firsthand concerns by leaders of the academic, business, and civilian sectors.

The meeting took place at CETYS University facilities in Mexicali, in the presence of hundreds of students who listened to the points of view and actions that are being developed in coordination by the three levels of government for proper implementation of public policies regarding security and wellbeing.
