AMLO claims that US files about General Cienfuegos are garbage

The president didn’t specify the reason why the DEA files are “garbage”

In today’s morning press conference, President López Obrador claimed that the files from the US Government that implicate General Salvador Cienfuegos are garbage.

The president is talking about the files that US made regarding General Cienfuegos’ arrest for drug trafficking and money laundering, and said they are “garbage, garbage, garbage.” He stated that defending Cienfuegos, more than defending Mexicans or an institution, involves the country’s sovereignty.

The president also recalled that during Felipe Calderón’s government, the United States offended the Mexican Armed Forces by saying that they were useless, except for the Navy. Moments later, he said that the times when Mexico submitted itself to others was a thing of the past, and that this government was not like previous ones.

The defense in favor of the Mexican Army has become the president’s main topic in the last few months, due to the murky incidents they have been involved in; the forced disappearance of the 43 students of Ayotzinapa has been the main topic in the last few days.

This topic has been become the main focus due to the president giving greater relevance to the Mexican Army, concessions to projects that haven’t been part of a selection process, budget increases, airport occupations, and a legitimate defense of this institution. These are all actions that don’t seem to have a lot of justification beyond the president’s words, who believes himself to be the moral and true voice of the country.
