Javier Espinoza Medina, of the Commission of Cinematography of the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI) has stated that the music video “This Is Not America” by Puerto Rican singer Residente, filmed in several areas of Baja California has been nominated to the Latin Grammys, in the category of Best Short Form Music Video. The results for this nomination will be revealed on November 17, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The videoclip was filmed in Tijuana at Estadio Caliente, Calle Sexta, Casa de la Cultura, Universidad Humanitas, the beach boardwalk, and the Playas de Tijuana border wall.
The local crew was led by producer Barbarella Pardo and the video was directed by Greg Ohrel and produced by Jason Cole. According to Javier Espinoza, filming took place in September 2021 and it required the coordination of several agencies including the Secretariat of Citizen Security of the Municipal Administration of Tijuana.
In addition, the following people also participated in the filming: Linda Ruiz, production designer; Génesis Michelle Martínez, art department; Rosario Cano and Eliaz Visaiz, casting; Gabriel Pérez, location manager; Marla Arreola, production manager; Claudio Bautista, first camera assistant; Sky Catering and Oseguera Crafty, catering and food; Border Boys, lighting technicians and theater elevators; and Gabriel Reyes, behind the cameras.
“The Latin Grammys are one of the most coveted awards in the industry and I feel honored and pleased because this video has a lot of work that I have carried out in Tijuana as producer and casting director. Thanks to Estadio Caliente, the actors and extras, the Commission of Cinematography of Baja California, and the local crew that supported us in making this music video. A million thanks to everyone,” producer Barbarella Pardo stated.
