With one less port of entry in the Tijuana-Tecate area, the other two border crossings, especially the one in Otay, have been saturated with users who wish to cross to the US. There have been reports of up to 3 and half hours of waiting in line in order to do so.

Today’s story is all about the Otay port of entry which, due to its long waiting times, has been flooded with so-called “gaviotas” (seagulls): people who cut in line. As such, users have gotten creative in trying to find ways to prevent these people from getting away with it.

The new “anti-seagull” modality is to open car doors so that those who are cutting in line are not able to find a right of way in between the cars, even with Tijuana’s current unbearable heat.

In a video shared by a user of the group “Cómo está la línea”, one can see a car using this strategy to stop another car from cutting in line.

It should be noted that the Tecate port of entry which usually operates from 6 AM to 10 PM won’t open this Friday, due to a fire that CBP and firefighters are currently containing.

Only when conditions are safe will this port of entry be reopened, CBP San Diego said in a statement. On the other hand, authorities have said that users who wish to cross will need to do so through the San Ysidro or Otay ports of entry.
