On August 22, an inauguration ceremony with San Diego officials will take place at the Otay Mesa toll-based border crossing, before construction teams begin their work. This was announced by Caltrans and SANDAG in a news release.

It is true, this border crossing will make you avoid long waiting times when crossing the border and it will begin its construction next week. It should be noted that the eastern Otay Mesa port of entry and the state route have been under construction for years.

However, the project is set to finish soon and it is expected that the toll-based border crossing will be ready in 2024. This new port of entry has been called the “border crossing of the 21st century” and will provide an additional option for the Tijuana-San Diego megaregion.

This will make things easier for the more than 100,000 people who commute daily for work, school, medical visits, shopping, and much more. One should also consider the toll issue as well as the fact that lanes will be able to switch according to car demand.

This means that if there is a lot of demand for cars and truck lanes are empty, this option will be enabled so that it can be used so as to prevent delays and waiting times. This will also help the environment.

According to the statement, cross-border improvements will help users to have faster, safer, and more predictable crossings.
