Colorado River-Tijuana aqueduct is operating at full capacity: Marina del Pilar

Marina del Pilar spoke about the importance of the Contingency Water Administration Program

According to information revealed by Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the Colorado River-Tijuana Aqueduct (ARCT) is working at full capacity to move 5,830 liters of water per second for the residents of the state’s west coast.

This came to be after resolving a pumping reduction recorded due to a transformer failure at electric substation La Rumorosa belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

Marina del Pilar underscored that the decrease of water pumping amount was solved after 11 hours, thanks to a strategy applied by SEPROA through the operative personnel of ARCT, as well as close coordination and communication between the Baja California administration with CFE. Because of this, the governor thanked the work carried out by CFE in order to benefit Baja Californians.

Ávila Olmeda stated that, due to what occurred, 220,000 cubic meters were not pumped to El Carrizo dam in Tijuana, the state coast area’s main reserve, which is why she highlighted the importance of the plan laid out by SEPROA, through the State Commission of Tijuana’s Utilities (CESPT). This is in order to recover the lost amount with responsible actions that affect the population of this area the least, especially in the cities of Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito.

Marina del Pilar highlighted the work carried out by authorities through an efficient framework in order to get the water, by dividing both cities in four sectors, as part of the Contingency Water Administration Program. There will be two 24-hour shortages between the months of July and August, a significant shorter period than ones registered in previous summers.

She explained that this is due to the work carried out by SEPROA led by Armando Samaniego, as well as staff of the four organizations that operate in the state. Mechanisms have been implemented in order to strengthen water supply to the coast area, which is why the Water Administration Program will record less daily life and production harmful effects in comparison with previous rationing programs applied in the past.
