Marina del Pilar will create more green areas in Baja California

The Baja California Governor laid out an initiative to prevent spaces meant for green areas from being modified or reduced

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda announced a series of actions that will guarantee enough green areas for the state’s communities, which will also prevent people’s rights to have parks for leisure and health reasons revoked.

This initiative is part of the RESPIRA program which has as one of its goals more sustainable and environmentally friendly cities.

In her video message on social media, Marina del Pilar revealed that she will send soon an initiative to the Baja California State Congress where she will establish concretely that it is forbidden for green area spaces developed to be changed in direction or reduced in size. That way, it is assured that all families will always have a leisure area near their homes. This, Marina del Pilar emphasized, is an answer to decades of green areas that have been victims of bad government action or corruption that modified their purpose or were even sold to private entities.

“Our commitment is to transform Baja California, with a new way of governing close to the people. We are making sure that the right of our families to have green areas closer to their homes is upheld,” the governor stated.

Also, as part of a transversal public policy, green areas will increase from 3% to 9% in each development, while also strengthening actions that will fight against those who try to harm Baja Californians’ environmental and urban assets. This is part of a comprehensive political act that makes sure that current and future generations can develop in green cities.

“To have a park close to one’s home makes a great difference in your daily life. A green area closer to home contributes decisively to families’ physical and emotional health, and gives another purpose to our daily life,” the governor added who underscored that the goal is to deal with the lack of parks in our state.

Lastly, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda emphasized that it is necessary for girls and boys to enjoy their childhood in safe spaces, which is a priority of the RESPIRA program. This is why she also revealed that next week she will announced new actions whose goal is to create even more green areas in strategic places in the communities of all Baja Californian municipalities.
