San Diego’s state Democratic delegation has backed and endorsed David Alvarez’s reelection to California Assembly District 80. This means an obstacle for his opponent, Georgette Gómez against whom he is looking to win next November.

Last week, Álvarez’s campaign announced endorsements by Senate Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, Assemblymembers Chris Ward and Akilah Weber, Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath, Assemblymember Brian Maienschein and Senator Ben Hueso, as well as Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, the California Latino Legislative Caucus and the mayors of District 80.

Atkins has said that he is proud to endorse assemblymember David Álvarez for his reelection, since he is someone he has known for many years. He added that he has the background and passion to address our society’s greatest issues. “I am confident he will continue to be a great advocate for the people of District 80 and I look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Atkins, however, did not answer questions about his decision to support Álvarez over his opponent, Georgette Gómez, who also didn’t respond regarding these statements.

According to news outlets, it seems that there seems to be a change regarding the Democratic establishment since, at first, the Democratic party in San Diego and California had endorsed Gómez’s campaign.

Endorsements of David’s reelection mean a setback for some legislators who had already endorsed Georgette before the primary elections in June, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The candidate for California’s California Assembly District 80 has some main pillars in his proposals that he has engaged with previously: the environment, citizen security, economic plans, initiatives to improve communities, and the financing of education and the arts.
