Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda celebrated the National Fencing Championship with Baja Californian athletes who participated in the National CONADE 2022 Games. With more than 50 medals, the athletes led above all players in the country’s most important sports competition. For Marina del Pilar, these athletes elevated Baja California's name and showed that Baja Californian talent is synonymous with commitment.
For her part, Director of the Sports and Physical Culture Institute of Baja California (INDE BC), Lourdes Cañez Martínez stated that the fencing matches ended at the state auditorium in Mexicali, after 8 days of intense competition that allowed our state to win 52 medals in total, above Jalisco which won 45 medals and Nuevo Leon which won 30 medals. Of the 52 medals won by Baja California, 19 were gold, 10 were silver, and 23 were bronze, while Jalisco won 15 gold medals, 14 silver, and 16 bronze.
The Olympic children's category was the one that ended the event of the National CONADE Games with team competitions in sword, foil, saber, and baton, with Baja California winning 1 silver and 5 bronze medals in the emotional closing ceremony. Thanks to trainers Alain Tandron and Miquel Rodríguez, Baja California has maintained fencing as one of its most important and powerful sports when it comes to young and children’s categories.
Marina del Pilar highlighted that with this fencing triumph, Baja California has won its fourth championship at the National CONADE 2022 Games, while she also spoke of the participants in rowing, grass hockey, and gymnastics. She said that this allows one to think that the state has enough competitive capital for international competitions such as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The state governor encouraged Baja Californian athletes that have competed intensely in the National CONADE Games to continue training, since they have the state government’s commitment to accompany them when necessary so they can compete in high places, nationally or internationally. This is because sports are one of the guiding principles and guidelines of the state administration, since it is an important engine to the development and reconstruction of the social fabric of all municipalities.
