Marina del Pilar announces Covid-19 vaccination for children 5 to 11 years old in Baja California

The process will begin on Thursday, June 16

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Baja California Governor, shared in a statement today that on Thursday, June 16 the preregistration of children between 5 and 11 years old will begin, which will allow them to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

During the 30th edition of “Wednesday Morning Press Conference with Marina del Pilar” that took place in Tijuana’s State Center of the Arts (CEART), the governor said that there is close coordination between the government of Mexico to strengthen vaccination in the state.

“Our children aged 5 to 11 years old will be vaccinated in our country and, of course, in Baja California we will have the best vaccination strategy so that we are one of the first states in vaccinating our kids and give them safety,” she said.

She also highlighted Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s permanent support so that there are enough doses to benefit people in our state, especially to safeguard their health.

Regarding the status of the pandemic, the governor said that after two weeks without any Covid-19 related deaths, a relevant time period without intubated patients, and lack of serious conditions in those whose tests are positive, there is an adequate control of the situation by health authorities.

Marina del Pilar pointed out that hospitalized people are the ones who decided not to vaccinate, which shows the overwhelming efficacy of the vaccine to prevent serious cases.

The state governor underscored that the percentage of people hospitalized has been considerably low, being 1% in state medical units and 4% at the Social Security Mexican Institute (IMSS).

For his part, the Secretary of Health of Baja California, José Adrián Medina Amarillas explained that, though there has been an increase in infections, these are not serious cases, which confirms that Covid-19 and its consequences are under control.

The state official added that the booster shots are still being given to people who have been vaccinated for over four months ago, which means there is always a possibility to strengthen immunization among Baja Californians.
