Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Baja California’s Governor, celebrated Teacher’s Day and reinforced her commitment to safeguard the rights of all Baja Californian teachers. She likewise asserted that she would make sure that payments to teachers are made in time.

During the ceremony that took place in Tijuana’s Cultural Center (CECUT), the governor delivered awards, as well as economic stimulus, to teachers for their daily work of over 30 and 40 years of services educating Baja Californian students.

In her speech to teachers, union representatives, and society at large, Marina del Pilar said that everyone owes a lot of their personal and professional achievements to the daily work of teachers, who can always positively impact anyone’s life.

“What defines a good teacher, beyond just knowledge, is their vocation and the love for their job, their empathy for students, and their skills when it comes to motivating them and guiding them,” the governor said.

Marina del Pilar also emphasized the efforts carried out by teachers to continue activities during the Covid-19 pandemic, from going to classrooms to two successful years of online distance learning and education.

Because of this, the governor personally thanked the thousands of teachers present that have transformed the lives of Baja Californians positively, because their commitment has been fundamental in building a better future for our state in regards to its development and wellbeing.

As part of Teacher’s Day celebration, a tribute was paid to more than 500 teachers, 47 of which, after having worked for four decades, received a gold medal from Governor Marina del Pilar herself and the Secretary of Education, Gerardo Arturo Solís Benavides.

At the event, the following people were present: Catalino Zavala Márquez, State Secretary of the Interior; Celso Vidal Bonilla, awarded teacher for 43 years of uninterrupted work; Óscar Ramos, Representative of the National Executive Committee of the National Education Workers Syndicate (SNTE); Juan Enrique Villanueva Villa, General Secretary of SNTE Section 2; and Ampelio Íñiguez, General Secretary of SNTE Section 37.

Likewise, Héctor Lara, General Secretary of SETEBC; Jesús Salvador Rubio, General Secretary of SIETEBC, and Agustín Morales, General Secretary of STE BC, and other special guests were also present.
