Ensenada could have a ferry to cross to San Diego

The trip could take around 2 hours and 15 minutes to travel the 68 miles from port to port

In order to reduce border crossing waiting times, it was revealed that a new alternate route will be opened this summer. A pilot program of a ferry that will connect Ensenada to San Diego could begin, it was revealed during a meeting through social media.

In the virtual meeting, the following representatives were present: of CGPMM, of the National Port System Administration (ASIPONA) of Ensenada, of Ensenada Customs, of the Secretariat of the Interior of Baja California, of the Port of San Diego, and the Political and Economic Officer at U.S. Department of State in Tijuana, Jett Thomason.

According to the information provided, the results were shown in market research saying that there were favorable opinions to launch a ferry operation that carries passengers and vehicles. This will take less time than any other passenger Ensenada-San Diego vehicle when crossing the border.

Authorities revealed that the trip will take approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes through the 68 miles (111 kilometres) from port to port. The fee hasn’t been established definitively and is still uncertain which company will offer this service, though there are several Mexican businesses that are interested.

To continue this project’s progress, a feasibility study will be done as well as the signing of a memorandum of agreement to pair up the ports and establish joint commitments such as what actions should be taken. All of this in order to establish a passenger and vehicle service that builds a bridge between both ports.
