Baja California Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda thanked women for fighting against injustice and inequality, pointing out that women are still facing obstacles in public and private nowadays.

At the conference that took place on March 9, 2022 in Playas de Rosarito, the Governor expressed that she shares that feeling of fight, which is why Baja Californian women are backed by the state government's and all of its agencies’ support, so that they can be assisted thoroughly, strengthening them from different perspectives.

During the 16th “Morning Press Conference Wednesday”, the Governor emphasized that her administration has committed itself to follow women’s examples and work so “that girls, young women, and women can live their lives to the fullest.”

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda added:

Today many of us have managed to break some of inequality’s barriers and have managed to carry out professional and political responsibilities of great relevance.

She added that women have overcome many obstacles and that currently a lot of them are smeared publicly simply because they are women, which is hard to endure for a lot of women who don’t have any public responsibilities.

She also spoke about how she received, starting November 1, 2021, an administration with a gender-based violence alert, which has been revised and reviewed responsibly and sensitively, in order to deeply change the design, adequacy, and orchestration of public policies.

She put forth as an example that for the first time in history Baja California proposed and approved a gender perspective budget, with 649 million pesos allocated to women’s empowerment, as well as giving full attention to the gender-based violence alert statement.

Specifically referring to this, she also explained that interinstitutional and multidisciplinary groups have been strengthened, where representatives of Human Rights and the Secretariat of the Interior have been incorporated, in order to help with all gender matters as soon as possible.

She also said that the Baja Californian Woman Institute received a budget increase of 70% between 2021 and 2022, while the Center of Justice for Women (CEJUM) had a budget increase of 100%. This is what allows them to bring comprehensive and specialized services that aid to give justice and complete care to women who have been victims of violence.

Among the main data, one can find that while in 2021 2,775 women were assisted, this year, from January 1st to February 23rd, 1,374 have been assisted, which is almost 50% of last year’s total. Marina del Pilar highlighted that this is a reflection of the commitment that this administration has with Baja Californian women.

She stated:

When we widen our assistance capabilities, we are telling women that they are not alone, that they can count on my government, that they can count on a Governor to be with them.

Lastly, she said that “every woman that fights for her rights and freedom, has a female Governor that has her back”, since women are stronger together and it is possible to build a society that is completely democratic.

Marina del Pilar was accompanied by Playas de Rosarito Mayor, Araceli Brown Figueredo; Secretary of Honesty and Civil Service, Rosina del Villar Casas; Secretary of Culture, Alma Delia Ábrego Ceballos; Secretary of Gender Inclusion and Equality, Miriam Cano Núñez; Center of Justice for Women Director, María Magdalena Bautista; Baja California Women Institute Director, Karla Pedrín Rembao, and gender-violence specialized prosecutor, Adriana Lizárraga.

Marina del Pilar assists neighbors of Camino Verde

Subsequently, Marina del Pilar toured Colonia Camino Verde, in order to assist those affected by the recent landslides that occurred in Víctor Islas Parra street in this community.

Accompanied by Secretary of the Interior, Catalino Zavala Márquez, Civil Protection State Coordinator, Salvador Cervantes Hernández, and General Secretary of the XXIV Municipal Hall of Tijuana, Jorge Salazar Miramontes, the Governor announced that resources will be given for rent payments.

She also said that as much management as needed will be carried out in order to deliver homes through the National Fund of Workers’ Homes Institute (INFONAVIT), in order to comply with the human right to a home for the approximately 700 people affected.

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda signed the state of emergency statement for this area which will allow necessary public policy to be created more easily in order to solve the needs of the victims.
