In order to be able to create state security strategies and policies, Baja California Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, set up this Wednesday the State Council of Citizen Security which will be able to strengthen the work done against insecurity through several institutions.

Not only the three branches of the state’s power participate in this Council, but also the Government of Mexico, five municipalities, heads of the San Quintín and San Felipe councils, and civil and corporate organizations.

During the setting that took place in the Center of Control, Commands, Communication, and Computation (C4), Marina del Pilar highlighted that security and the building of peace are essential matters for her administration. She also thanked the participation of civil society organizations’ representatives who are interested in working together with the authorities.

Furthermore, the Governor, as President of the Council, was sworn in by its members. The Council was declared completely inaugurated starting this Wednesday, March 2, important progress in the development of an efficient security policy for the state.

“Justice is an essential part of the security strategy we are devising. We want to eliminate impunity and keep working for Baja Californian families,” the Governor added, as she also asked Baja Californian citizens for their trust.

Marina del Pilar said, in front of members of the Council, that public officials are mandated to guarantee peace and stated that the most important thing for a solid strategy is to be in coordination with the federal government.

“We have a tremendous responsibility and it is precisely this: to be in charge of structuring the foundations and policies between the three levels of government to fight crime efficiently. We will keep working in coordination to bring peace, tranquility, and the security that all families in Baja California deserve,” she stated.

On the other hand, she noted the important steps that have been taken regarding public security interstate coordination. These occurred in the meeting the Governor had last weekend with the state governors of Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa, and Nayarit, who are all part of the Alliance of Pacific Governors.

Marina del Pilar highlighted the presence of Mexico’s City Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, as well as Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, since it reinforces the fact that the Fourth Transformation is united and focused on regional development.

In this meeting, that took place in La Paz, Baja California Sur, not only key matters such as agriculture, fishing, and farming were talked about, but a concrete possibility of having Baja California interconnect with the national electrical system was also discussed.

“We are also working to strengthen security in the territorial limits of every state and region in the medium term by installing high-technology highway arches. In the long term, we are pushing for the creation of a National Center of Higher Education in Citizen Security,” the Governor of Baja California stated.

Regarding back to school matters, the Governor highlighted that 100% of secondary schools and more than 80% of basic education schools are open and functioning, which has allowed for at least four of five students to go back to their classrooms.

She also underscored the work that has been done to prepare schools in the pandemic context, delivering over 45,000 supplies of cleaning articles and medical instruments.

In this meeting, General Secretary of the Government, Catalino Zavala Márquez; Secretary of Citizen Security, General Gilberto Landeros Briseño; State Prosecutor, Ricardo Iván Carpio Sánchez; and Commissioner of the State’s Penitentiary System, María Elena Andrade were all present.

The mayors of Mexicali, Ensenada, Tijuana, Tecate, and Playas de Rosarito; Norma Bustamente, Monsterrat Caballero, Armando Ayala, Darío Benítez, and Araceli Brown were also at the event, as well as heads of the San Quintín and San Felipe councils, Jorge López and José Dagnino.

Additionally, Víctor Aguirre, representative of SEDENA; Victorino Porcayo, FGR representative; Francisco Javier Hernández, representative of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection; Rosa García, local congresswoman; Miguel Mora, CEDHBC President, and Roberto Quijano, President of the Citizen Council of Public Security also attended the event.
