AMLO’s approval rating drops to 57% after Loret de Mola scandal

A national poll took place to find out people’s opinions

Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, continues to be a focal topic of conversation everywhere, for obvious reasons, due to the recent controversies he has been involved in. These events have caused people’s trust and approva in him to decline 10 points in only 16 days.

A few weeks ago, newsperson Carlos Loret de Mola revealed the cost of AMLO’s eldest son’s, José Ramón López Beltrán, home. Following this, the President of Mexico expressed his displeasure and during one of his morning press conferences claimed that the journalist had a salary of over 30 million pesos.

C&E Research carried out a national poll where it is revealed that in 16 days, AMLO’s approval rating dropped from 67.13%, on January 28,2022, to 57%, on February 12, 2022: a 10-point drop. Other questions asked in this poll have to do with knowledge regarding this issue and what is people’s opinion regarding the president’s actions. 600 phone calls in total were carried out randomly in Mexico.

Around 66% of people found out about the controversy between AMLO and Loret de Mola; of the total amount of people polled 41% believes Loret de Mola, while 59% support AMLO. Curiously, most people doubt of the president’s honesty with 29% considering him a little bit honest and 24% considering him not honest at all.

Regarding AMLO’s eldest son, whose home has caused so much controversy, he explained that he bought the house thanks to his job at an American company. He assured that his father’s influence was not used to benefit him. 51% of people think this explanation was a little too late, and not very believable; 49% of people think this is true. At the same time, 52% think that José Ramón should show evidence of his income so that his version has more weight.

So far, and generally speaking, regarding AMLO’s job performance, 32% think that it is “somewhat bad”, 25% think that it has been “bad” , and 19% think that his performance “has been good.”
