Baja California asks people not to meet up for Super Bowl Sunday

The state is still under the orange epidemiological traffic light

There was a slight increase in active Covid-19 cases this Friday in Baja California with 514 positive cases in a period of 24 hours, stated state head of ISESALUD Epidemiology, Óscar Zazueta. He also added that it is important to keep safety health measures this Sunday during Super Bowl, since this is a date in which family and friends tend to meet up to watch the game.

The official said that there are 1,704 active Covid-19 cases in Baja California with 123 hospitalized and 73 intubated; the rest are being assisted in an outpatient manner.

During this Friday’s conference, it was stated that Baja California is still under the orange epidemiological traffic light. He didn’t rule out that the color could change to yellow if cases and hospitalizations decrease, although the decision is taken by federal government.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 123,133 accumulated positive cases and 111,649 deaths due to the virus.

Néstor Hernández Milán, head of the Evaluation and Follow Up Unit of ISESALUD, said that there is a Covid-19 occupancy in hospitals of 52.43% and 57.41% in medical units of IMSS (Mexican Institute of Social Security). These numbers have been declining along with active cases.
