Owners of paid parking lots will have to pay for thefts and damages done to the users’ cars.

This initiative, now a law, will start being enforced in 10 days in Baja California and was proposed by PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) representative Román Cota Muñoz. After five months of debate, the Baja California Congress has ratified the modifications to article 22 of the Building Law.

With this law, those who offer parking lot services won’t be able to excuse themselves with any notice regarding damage or partial or total theft coverage of parked vehicles. This means that they will have to answer by covering the costs, regardless if the driver has insurance with coverage.

This law also forbids parking lots from allowing a larger number of vehicles into the lot than the amount allowed by the authorities.

Owners must have the necessary warranties and obtain the pertinent insurances to benefit users who, with their ticket, will be able to make claims at the administrative offices, in case of any accidents.

It should be noted that this law doesn’t apply to free parking lots.
