Assassinations and shootings continue in the Riviera Maya, Mexico's most popular tourist destination, as a result of organized crime and turf wars between criminal gangs.
Among the most recent cases include the assassination of Argentine entrepreneur Federico Mazzoni, the manager of Mamita's Beach Club, who left two Canadian women dead in the Hotel Xcaret; both had criminal backgrounds.
As a result, the FBI, DEA, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police will arrive in the state to work with Mexican authorities on investigative lines in order to put a stop to a scenario that puts foreign visitors, national tourists, and locals in risk.
Authorities in Quintana Roo have already reported the arrest of two persons, a Mexican male and a Canadian woman, who are suspected of being involved in the murders of the Canadians; however, investigations into the other instances are still underway.
Apart from the Mexican cartels, the Russian and Romanian mafias would be engaged, therefore one of the tasks of international and local authorities is to figure out which criminal groups operate in the region.
