Active cases of Covid-19 continue to rise in Baja California, and these are of the contagious Delta variant. However, citizens are now concerned about the new South African strain micron, which is more infectious and deadly than Delta, even though the state's health secretariat stated on Wednesday that no positive cases of this new strain had been confirmed.
According to the agency's head, Dr. José Adrián Medina Amarillas, the presence of this variant has not been detected in Baja California, and that there is still insufficient information to confirm that this strain is much more contagious or lethal than the Delta because no death from this variant has been reported anywhere in the world.
The Ministry of Health, on the other hand, did not rule out the possibility that this strain makes its way into Mexican territory, let alone Baja California, and urged the entire population not to relax their precautions because, in addition to Covid-19 and its variants, other viruses are expected during the winter season, which is why it is critical to complete vaccination schedules and adhere to sanitary measures.
On Wednesday, the first case of the omicron coronavirus variety was verified in the United States' neighboring nation, California. Patients have already been confirmed in Hong Kong, South Africa, Europe, and Brazil.
