The reopening of the U.S. border to non-essential travel will take place on November 8, however, there are new guidelines that visitors must comply with.
Apart from showing a valid visa and vaccination certificate, there will be new schedules at the ports of entry. Border Patrol officials unveiled a strategy they will implement to control traffic.
The checkpoints will have new schedules: Beginning November 7 in Tecate they will open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., at the port of Andrade from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. On November 8, the Calexico East Port will have the same hours, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The San Ysidro, Otay Mesa and Calexico West Port will remain open 24 hours.
All pedestrian processing at San Ysidro will continue at the Pedestrian East facility (the original pedestrian crossing area at San Ysidro). There will be no changes to cargo/commercial processing.
In anticipation of increased traffic volume, the Border Patrol will scale staffing based on anticipated workloads in an effort to quickly process travelers permitted into the U.S.
