This Friday, September 24, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Governor-elect of Baja California, symbolically threw the first pitch at the Los Padres game in San Diego as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Likewise, the mutual recognition between Latin America and the United States is placed at the forefront, therefore, theGovernor-elect considered that Baja California is a space that will take advantage of the opportunities of the binational region to improve the development of its community and its inhabitants, in order to strengthen the future of the mega-region.

She also recalled the importance of sports and physical activity for the benefit of the community, and confirmed that in her administration, which will officially start on November 1st, athletes will be given their due place and sufficient spaces and facilities will be provided so that the population in general can be physically active.

Among the commitments are to improve the support scheme for athletes, to properly integrate physical education in elementary and middle schools, as well as to prioritize the participation of Baja California athletes in world competitions, including the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda thanked Los Padres de San Diego for inviting her at such an important moment as during Hispanic Heritage Month, when one of the most important sports institutions in California recognizes the value and importance that the Latino community has for the United States, due to the enormous contribution of athletes in various areas of society.

Present at the event were Carlos Torres Torres, the Governor-elect´s husband, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda García, her mother, José María Francisco Avila Hernández, her father, as well as the Mexican Consul in San Diego, Carlos González Gutiérrez, the Governor-elect´s Transition Coordinator in the economic area, Kurt Honold Morales, the head of the Governor-elect´s Office, Alfredo Álvarez Cárdenas, among other personalities.
