U.S.-Mexico border could open before the end of the year: Marcelo Ebrard

The closure is not expected to continue until 2022 as commercial activities in the border region are being affected

This Tuesday, August 24, during President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's daily morning conference, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard spoke about the restrictions on crossings from Mexico to the United States and although there is still no definite date for a reopening with the North American country, he did mention something that gives us hope.

According to the Chancellor, the closure is not expected to continue until 2022 since commercial activities in the border region are being affected, so it could be before 2022 that the restrictions begin to be partially lifted.

He also informed that the determining factor for not opening the border in the last two months was the increase of coronavirus infections in both regions.

He also stated that he did not have more details on this reopening, however, once the information is available, it will be made public, which will happen when the sanitary situation of the country or, at least of the border regions, improves.

Do you think that the border will be reopened in 2021, or do you think that Marcelo Ebrard's comments will not become a reality until at least next year?
