Rosarito surpasses San Diego in incidence of coronavirus cases

It is also the municipality with the highest incidence of cases in Baja California

Baja California reported a decrease in the number of active COVID-19 cases, registering 993; although the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, highlighted that this does not mean that there is a downward trend.

Most of these cases are located in Tijuana, totaling 404, while Rosarito occupies the fourth place in this list with 45 of the total. However, this last municipality has the highest incidence rate of active cases (per 100 thousand inhabitants) in the state, being 40.5, while in the most populated city, Tijuana, it is 22.15.

On this point Pérez Rico said: "It is not possible that this weekend's affectation is of this incidence because the COVID-19 incubation period has not been completed yet. Then, the analysis that we will have in relation to the cases we are having in Rosarito will be directly related to the infection chains that may arise within the working population and to what the U.S. authorities report to us, since most of these people are of U.S. origin".

It is worth mentioning that the same indicator, but at a binational level, Rosarito is also the municipality with the highest rate, surpassing San Diego, Yuma and Imperial, in the United States.

According to the Secretary's recent report, among the municipalities where the virus is reproducing the most is Playas de Rosarito, with an Effective Reproduction Rate of 1.38 and with an upward trend.

Currently, Baja California has 54 thousand 537 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far in the pandemic, of which one thousand 244 belong to Rosarito. Regarding the 8 thousand 890 unfortunate deaths, 31 have occurred in this locality.
