Baja California close to one thousand active cases

A month ago there were 365 active cases in the region, today there are 947

The third wave of COVID-19 infections started in Baja California a week ago, and today the highest number of active cases so far in this new wave was reported, totaling 947.

And although 30 days ago the state was not yet part of this wave, it can be seen how these cases have increased, since a month ago there were 365. The Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, commented that of the 947 active cases, 838 are mild, and 109 had to be hospitalized.

We recall that the day Baja California had the highest number of active cases was January 23rd of this year, with one thousand 489. But due to the fact that the incidence of these cases continues to grow in each municipality, and that the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) is above one, in almost all the cities of the state, the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, warned that the increase of these cases will continue in the next 10 to 14 days.

According to the head of this agency, the total number of active cases could continue to reach 800 to 900 during these days.

On the other hand, in the last 24 hours the state registered 216 new cases of coronavirus, of which only 97 belong to Tijuana, while another 77 to Mexicali, 24 to Ensenada, 13 to Rosarito, and five to Tecate. In this same period of hours, seven deaths were added, but they correspond to August 1, 8, 9 and 10, said the Secretary.

So far in the pandemic, 53 thousand 946 Baja Californians have tested positive for COVID-19, and 8 thousand 866 have unfortunately lost their lives. Currently most of the people who are being intubated or who have passed away due to this disease, were not vaccinated or did not complete their vaccination schedule, said Pérez Rico in his latest reports.
