The increase of active COVID-19 cases continues in Baja California, totaling 845 today.

Although Mexicali was the municipality that most increased its numbers from yesterday to today, going from 239 to 264, Tijuana continues to accumulate the majority, registering 348.

According to the report presented this Saturday by the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, 739 of the active cases are patients who have the disease at a mild level.

"Fortunately the vast majority of these are mild cases, the hospitalization rate is not going up. That does not mean that people with COVID are not getting sick," he said.

The entity today has a little more than half of the active cases it had on its record day, January 23, 2021, when it had one thousand 489. The date with the highest number of hospitalizations was December 27, 2020, with 656, while today 106 people are in a health unit.

It was also reported that in the last 24 hours, 150 new cases were registered, 55 of them in Tijuana, followed by Mexicali with 53, Ensenada with 30, Tecate with seven, Rosarito with four and San Quintin with one.

There were five unfortunate deaths due to this disease, three in Ensenada and two in Tijuana.

The municipalities with the highest number of cases are the largest ones, and this is where the virus is reproducing the most. Pérez Rico commented that cases will continue to increase, and added that the World Health Organization's projection in relation to COVID was: "this war is going to be for a long time".

The secretary recalled that the only ways to reduce the chains of transmission are by getting vaccinated and carrying out safety and health measures against COVID-19, such as the use of masks, hand washing and social distancing.
