Karla Ruiz Macfarland took office as Mayor of Tijuana this year, after having the experience in 2020 to cover for former Mayor Arturo González Cruz, known for his bad relations with the state government and multiple scandals. This change of leadership was a success in many aspects for the city.

However, although many positive things have come out of Macfarland's administration, this time we will focus on the economic aspect, which is essential, especially in these times of pandemic. During the second quarter of 2021 alone, there was a 180% investment.

Of this investment, 64.48% was domestic, while 35.51% was foreign and the rest was local. These numbers exceed those of last year and represent a 37.7% increase in investment. Likewise, it was recognized for having the highest percentage in the employment occupation rate, having registered 98 percent.

"The figures, released by Inegi, reflect a gradual quarterly and annual growth of our entity, placing Baja California in first place nationally in growth, compared to the same period in 2020. Despite the severe economic impact, derived from the pandemic we are experiencing, the numbers have been positive at the local level since Tijuana registers more than 50% of the formal employment of the entity according to IMSS," said Gabriel Camarena Salinas, head of Sedeti, in a press release.

Likewise, the treasurer of the Tijuana City Hall, Olga Angélica Alcalá Pescador, has shared that excellent finances will be delivered to the incoming administration. In fact, Fitch Ratings ratified the AAA (mex) vra rating for Tijuana for three bank loans of this municipality.

This indicates that Mayor Karla Ruiz Macfarland will leave an economically stable government and that any debt is already covered through an administration trust, so she has left the basis for the next administration to start without any type of economic problem.
