Under the mandate of Mayor Karla Ruiz, relations between Tijuana and San Diego are strengthened

A relationship of professionalism and collaboration has been established between the border cities

Despite the fact that border restrictions between the United States and Mexico continue to affect border residents, the leaders of Tijuana and San Diego maintain excellent communication and seem to agree on the relevant points to improve the relationship between the border cities.

Since February, when Karla Ruiz Macfarland and Todd Gloria, Mayor of Tijuana and Mayor of San Diego respectively, first engaged in a conversation through the Zoom platform, they established that they would work on behalf of the communities on both sides of the border:

"I look forward to working with Mayor Ruiz MacFarland to ensure the health, safety and sustainability of our megaregion and stand together on issues of immigration, trade and cross-border pollution" said Todd Gloria.

Since then, whenever he has had the opportunity, Gloria has recognized Ruiz MacFarland's work, as he did last month during the signing of the U.S.-Mexico plan to create a new border crossing at Otay Mesa, the new border crossing option that will be available in the next few years.

At this important event, the Mayor of San Diego thanked and recognized the work of Karla Ruiz, as he knows better than anyone how difficult it is to govern such an important city in times of a global pandemic.

Likewise, the mayor has strengthened ties with the coordinator for southern border affairs at the U.S. National Security Council, Roberta Jacobson, to seek a solution to the issue of the border and migration from Latin America. She also received the former Consul General of the United States in Tijuana, Sue Saarnio at the inauguration of the First Reception Shelter for Unaccompanied Children and Adolescents in the Context of Mobility in Tijuana, a project carried out together with the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef).
