Gabriela Bayardo, born in Tijuana, Baja California, but now representing the Netherlands at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, won the silver medal in Archery in the mixed team event early Saturday morning.

According to World Archery, the Mexican but now dual national after marrying a Dutchman and identified to the International Olympic Committee as Gaby Schloesser since she uses her husband's surname, is not only the first archer to represent the Netherlands in more than two decades, but the first Dutch woman to win a medal in the sport at the Games.

The Tijuana native, along with her partner Steve Wijler, defeated Korea's An San and Kim Je Deok.

"I think we knew we could win because we did it before," Schloesser told World Archery, adding, "We had medals against them before. We went in there and said to each other, 'do your best, enjoy and shoot 10s'."

According to some reports, Gaby applied to represent Mexico remotely, but was denied, so she adopted the Dutch delegation, since she already has a passport.

Bayardo, is 27 years old, and in 2016 participated in the Rio Olympics as part of the Mexican delegation. Before her victory and rise to the podium she declared: "It is a double triumph for Mexico, I now represent the Netherlands by dual nationality and I am happy because both for them (Mexico) and for us things were given to us".
