In view of the statement made by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, regarding the start of on-site classes in August, the Secretary of Health in Baja California, Alonso Pérez Rico, was asked if this will also apply to this state.

The head of this agency confirmed that at the end of August students will return to the classroom, but he clarified that this will be under the supervision of this Secretariat and under intense work carried out by the Secretariat of Public Education.

"Precisely because we knew that we were going to return to face-to-face classes, we authorized five schools to start with pilot projects with safety and health protocols their face-to-face classes, we are monitoring them, we see what is happening, what are the areas of opportunity; so that in August, at the end of August when we start, we already have that path walked," he said.

As will be recalled, one of the schools that started with this pilot program was the Federal High School Lázaro Cárdenas (PFLC), located in Tijuana, last May 31.

Pérez Rico assured: "We have been preparing it for the last six to eight weeks and we are ready".

For their part, state authorities mentioned that it is difficult not to approve this return to classes, since schools have been rehabilitated, teachers are vaccinated, and now most of the population of the Entity; in addition to the fact that the traffic light is green (with the exception of Mexicali, which shows a tendency to turn green).

"The conditions here are excellent to return to school," they said.

Finally Pérez Rico mentioned, "they are serious decisions that have to be taken, but in Baja California we are used to making them".
