The Mayor of Tijuana, Karla Ruiz Macfarland is committed to helping women who live in a situation of violence, which is why she has undertaken a series of actions to try to eradicate gender violence in the city.

Among these actions is the signing of an agreement with the Interinstitutional Network of Psychosocial Support and Legal Strengthening for women in situations of violence, which involves some of the most important universities in the city.

The main reason for this agreement is to prioritize the mental health of victims of violence. This is due to the frequency with which the Municipal Women's Institute receives victims of abuse. It was pointed out, on the occasion, that 9 out of 10 women who come to this institute live with some type of mental problem or live in violence.

"Here in Tijuana people come from different states, from different countries with different personalities and I have learned is that it is beautiful, these differences instead of dividing us, instead of having this argument that mine is better than yours... these differences can unite us", commented the mayor of Tijuana.

In addition to this, the System for the Integral Development of the Family (SDIF) through the Coordination of Attention to the Family has made several preventive programs available to the women of Tijuana with the intention of improving the self-esteem and empowerment of women, through talks, workshops, counseling, information, guidance and psychological care.

They have also established the 075 telephone line for women who require psychological intervention and immediate attention. It should be noted that calls will be received by trained personnel who will provide timely attention.

But the initiatives do not end here: this week an agreement was signed between the Justice Center for Women of the State of Baja California (Cejum) and the System for the Integral Development of the Family (SDIF), under the direction of Ruiz Macfarlnd.

The objective of this agreement is to combat the causes that lead to unstable environments that affect women by all means.

To follow up on this important issue, on July 26, 2021, a working group will be established, made up of civil society organizations with expertise in the subject, which will be joined by authorities interested in the eradication and elimination of violence against this group.
