Active COVID-19 cases increased in Baja California, going from 390 to 402 as of this Friday. Mexicali with 152 of these cases and Tijuana with 141, are the two municipalities that concentrate most of the total, as Ensenada reports 76 active cases, Tecate 13, San Quintin 12, Rosarito seven and San Felipe one.
As can be seen, Tijuana is about to catch up with Mexicali in these figures, in view of this, the head of the State Health Secretariat, Alonso Pérez Rico, asked its residents to reinforce prevention measures, since it is also one of the three municipalities where the virus is reproducing the most, having an Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) of 1.12.
According to the Secretary, "active cases are increasing because the measures are being relaxed", due to the fact that the population is becoming confident because they are already vaccinated.
On the other hand, 57 new cases and four deaths were registered in the last 24 hours. In the case of the former, 20 belong to Mexicali, 23 to Tijuana, nine to Ensenada, four to Tecate and one to San Quintin. Regarding the deaths, one occurred in Tijuana and the other three in the State capital.
Pérez Rico commented that the new positive cases are appearing at a mild level, which is an effect of the vaccination, since it prevents the disease from presenting itself in a moderate or severe form, thus reducing hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in the state.
In fact, of the 402 active cases, 329 are ambulatory and 73 are in a hospital recovering, informed the Secretary. So far, 51 thousand 186 people in Baja California have had coronavirus, and 8 thousand 670 have lost their lives.
