Last week, through this website, we announced that the mayor of Tijuana, Karla Ruiz Macfarland, would head a reforestation program in the city, through which she intends to plant 40 thousand trees.

Today we received the news that this project has already begun. According to Tijuana's Municipal System of Theme Parks (Simpatt), they have reforested close to 800 trees in different areas of Morelos Park.

This has been achieved thanks to the initiative of Tijuana authorities and volunteers, as explained by Azael Mercedes Puente Camanera, director of Simpatt, who pointed out Engineer Victor Esparza as the leader of more than 50 collaborating members.

She also pointed to Engineer Arturo González Ramos, in charge of the nursery area at Morelos Park and member of the Mexican Association of Arboriculture, as the person in charge of the training.

So far, species such as jacaranda and yucateca have been planted in the park, the oriental garden and a space that is rented for events. They have also informed that Simpatt will donate a lot of plants, among which are the species of red brush, acacias, lluvia de oro, casuarina pine, Monterrey pine, Brazilian linden, pingüica, melaleuca and washingtonia palm.

For Mayor Ruiz Macfarland, the priority is to guarantee green spaces for the population, in addition to raising awareness about the care of plants and animals.
