U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents confiscated half a ton of methamphetamines in the commercial customs corresponding to Otay Mesa, California, which has a total price of approximately 2 million 500 thousand dollars, or about 50 million pesos.

The shipment came from the city of Tijuana, Baja California, and was detected with the help of a canine binomial in a tractor-trailer that was transporting watermelons to the United States.

The dog sniffed out the drugs in the shipment containing the fruit, prompting the agents to initiate a second search where they finally managed to detect 193 plastic containers that included packages hidden among the watermelons.

The operation ended with the arrest of the driver, a 47-year-old Mexican, who was transferred to the San Diego Metropolitan Correctional Center on charges of "attempted narcotics smuggling".

Previously, authorities had also arrested a woman, who was traveling with her son in San Clemente California, for carrying 112 thousand dollars in bills hidden inside the vehicle where she was traveling.

The 23 year-old U.S. citizen was handed over to the authorities after being detained on the Interstate highway in the previously mentioned town, as the agents detected a backpack on the front passenger floor with plastic bags containing bundles of bills, totaling $111,930 dollars.
