Five days after its regression to orange traffic light, Mexicali continues with an upward trend of COVID-19 cases, while the rest of the municipalities remain in yellow traffic light.

According to the head of the Secretariat of Health in Baja California, Alonso Pérez Rico, the division of the traffic light in the State was made with the purpose of protecting the rest of the Entity and avoiding the return to the orange or red coloration of the epidemiological traffic light chart.

"We already know what to do and we have to do it, and we cannot wait for them (the federal government) to come and tell us what to do", said the Secretary.

He said that if the situation in Mexicali remains as it is now or increases, once seven to ten days have passed since it went orange, "they will go to red, that is a reality".

Finally Pérez Rico added: "If Mexicali did not have this trend, we would be in the New Normal, we would be in green".

As of this Monday, the state capital still has the most active cases of COVID-19, with 313 of the 458 active cases in Baja California, a figure that keeps it in ninth place among the municipalities with most active cases in the country.

It also has the highest incidence of cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, at 29.47.

According to the Secretary, of the five new cases registered in the last 24 hours, four belong to this municipality.

It is worth mentioning that Mexicali is also where the virus is transmitted the fastest, with an Effective Reproduction Rate of 1.13.
