Amistad Park in Tijuana is closed due to deep cleaning works. This after the companies Bioregeneradora de Baja California (BIOR) and Baja Waste Water Solution, located in Otay border crossing and dedicated to the collection of fats, oils and chemicals, spilled waste into the sewage system and contaminated the park's lake.
At first, it was thought that the area would be closed for only one day. However, since last Sunday, the Municipal System of Theme Parks of Tijuana (Simpatt) has updated that they will continue without opening the entrance to the park.
They also inform that they are still waiting for the results of the sampling of the lake water to determine if there is any contaminating substance that could generate risk and thus be able to protect the visitors and the flora and fauna of the place.
According to a Simpatt statement: "Simpatt is working in coordination with the State Commission of Public Services of Tijuana (CESPT) with the purpose of affecting the citizens to a lesser extent and stresses that up to this day there has been no death of flora or fauna, nor foul odors in the lake".
Complaints about bad odors and strange coloration in the water began last week. A Facebook user even posted a photo of the lake on Simpatt's page and reported that the ducks that commonly visit the area were getting sick.
