Through an official statement, the General Director of the Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of Baja California, David González Camacho, announced that Baja California athletes will not have the opportunity to participate in the first edition of the National Conade Games, which will be held in Nuevo León.
González justified this decision with the COVID-19 pandemic and the epidemic traffic light that is happening in the state, also stating that the matter was consulted with health authorities of Baja California.
The event, previously known as "National Olympics", was planned to take place last year 2020, although due to the coronavirus it was decided to move its celebration to 2021. Some of the disciplines that will be part of it are track and field, basketball, cycling, baseball, bowling, swimming and chess.
In the letter addressed to Miguel Navarro Ramírez, Director of National Sports Events, it is mentioned that this measure was taken with the main objective of taking care of the health of the sports community in the state, also emphasizing its commitment to the promotion and implementation of projects of this nature, provided that the Secretariat of Health considers it appropriate.
Undoubtedly, this is a great loss for the boys, girls and young people who were preparing with so much effort to attend this great sporting event, eliminating the opportunity for Baja California to demonstrate its great athletic capacity, as we must remember that it is considered one of the sporting powers in Mexico, along with Jalisco and Nuevo León.
