The Secretariat of Health of Baja California announced that some possible COVID-19 and viral diseases were detected in the immigrant settlement located at the "El Chaparral" border crossing in Tijuana, Baja California.
The head of the state Secretariat of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, stated that the health authorities deployed some health brigades to monitor the situation and thanks to that, they discovered that it is not only about SARS Cov-2 virus infections, but also about other diseases such as chicken pox, diarrhea, etc.
After learning of the seriousness of the situation, the state government continues to constantly send health units to the camp, although both the Baja California Secretariat of Health and the state government assured that they will continue to join efforts to find a place to take immigrants in need of immediate medical attention.
The official stated that upon detecting a person with symptoms of coronavirus, they first perform the corresponding PCR test and based on the result, they provide the necessary treatment.
Although the presence of COVID-19 was confirmed in the settlement, the number of cases that were diagnosed by health experts who searched the area is unknown.
A few days ago, the 5th visit of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), had conducted a tour in the Tijuana border crossing to talk to the people living there, as well as to attend to their requests while they are waiting for their asylum process in the United States, information with which it is intended to create a strategy to support the stay of immigrants in Baja California.
