It has been a little more than a year since the COVID-19 pandemic began, according to statistics, in the world there have been almost 3 million deaths due to the virus and an estimated 130 million infections.

Now, on the local scene, during the daily report of the Secretariat of Health of Baja California, Dr. Alonso Perez Rico informed that in Baja California there are a total of 7 thousand 717 accumulated deaths due to coronavirus since the pandemic began. In addition, since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the state, there have been an average of 19.8 deaths per day.

On the other hand, 38 thousand 658 cases have been recovered in Baja California during this pandemic, mostly concentrated in the municipalities of Tijuana and Mexicali, which have the largest populations. Likewise, of the more than 38 thousand cases, 53% are women and 47% are men.

The Secretary of Health commented that the state's reproduction rate (RT) for the last seven days is 0.79, which means that if the rate is 1, each infected person will infect 2 others.

By region, the municipalities most at risk are San Quintin, Mexicali and Ensenada, with a RT of 1.23, 0.97 and 0.96, respectively. Tecate has an RT of 0.92, but it is the only municipality that is lowering this index. Rosarito and Tijuana's reproduction rate is rising, the former has an RT of 0.9 and the latter 0.63. San Felipe's reproduction rate is the same at 0.16.

As of April 2, 235 thousand 784 seniors have been vaccinated in Baja California. Tijuana is the municipality with the most vaccinations, with a total of 86 thousand 126 and in second place urban Mexicali with 66 thousand 953 vaccines applied.
