Baja California could change its coloration to orange within the epidemiological traffic light chart on Monday of next week.

The information was released by the Secretary of Health Alonso Perez Rico who during his daily report said that the transition will depend on the decrease of patients with COVID. In the meantime, we will remain under red during Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Perez Rico indicated that tomorrow he will inform which measures and activities will be allowed during the new stage of the epidemiological traffic light. In this scenario, some businesses could increase their capacity or, in the opposite case, place more restrictions if the incidence of the coronavirus increases.

The official met with health authorities from San Diego County to discuss the issue of the COVID-19 variants, specifically the one called V117, which is of concern for Baja California, since the mobility of U.S. citizens in Mexican territory could cause its spread.

The Secretary commented with joy that the arrival of 10 thousand doses purchased directly by the State Government was coordinated with Pfizer.

Regarding COVID-19 statistics in the state, Tijuana is ranked as the 44th city in Mexico with more active cases of coronavirus, with 308 cases at this moment, adding 93 cases during the last few days. There are 32 new cases of patients who have lost the battle against the disease since yesterday until today.

Baja California is the 26th state with the most active cases.

From January 11 to February 11, 20 thousand 579 Mexicans died of COVID-19 nationwide, of which 577 have died in Baja California.

As a result, Baja California continues to be under the red light. At the moment, Tijuana has 46 new cases, Mexicali 24, Ensenada 9, San Quintin 5, Tecate 4, Rosarito 2 and San Felipe 3, giving a total of 42 thousand 202 people infected since the pandemic began, and adding up to 7 thousand and 16 deaths to date.
