Alert in Baja California for illegal sale of COVID-19 vaccine

COFEPRIS emphasized that the vaccine will be administered free of charge and in accordance with the National Vaccination Plan organized by the Mexican Government.

COFEPRIS (Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks) together with the Secretariat of Health, announced a sanitary alert in Baja California and other states of the Republic, due to recent reports that point out the illegal sale of the anti-COVID vaccine created by AstraZeneca.

The German company has already been in contact with the Sole Federal Delegate of Baja California, Alejandro Ruiz Uribe, who through a press release informed that in fact the pharmaceutical company has not entered into any type of agreement to begin the commercialization of the doses against COVID-19 at a state or private level.

Due to the large number of complaints received by COFEPRIS in relation to the sale of the vaccine on internet sites, the commission pronounced itself on the matter to remind citizens that the administration of the injection against the coronavirus will be given free of charge, also inviting the population to be aware of the national vaccination program to know when the vaccine will be administered.

Although there have been no reported cases on the purchase and sale of anti-COVID vaccines in Baja California, the population has been asked to avoid any business that has to do with this type of medical supply, since apart from the economic fraud that may arise from this type of transactions, the application of this supposed ''dose'' could be seriously harmful to the human organism.

Likewise, the site https://www.gob.mx/cofepris/acciones-y-programas/denuncias-sanitarias was made available to the public so that people can report the sale of these medical products, whether they find them online or in any establishment such as hospitals, pharmacies, doctor's offices, etc.

However, for people who have acquired the vaccine in this way and have already been injected, they may report side effects or discomfort associated with the vaccine contact farmacovigilancia@cofepris.gob.mx.
