José Salvador Cervantes Hernández, state director of Civil Protection, announced a few hours ago the extension of the alert issued yesterday in Baja California for the return of the so-called Santa Ana winds to the region.

According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the possibility of winds of up to 70 km/h in the state was registered, while in Tijuana the maximum temperature will be up to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, which will provide a warm and dry climate in the city.

This condition began on Thursday afternoon and will remain so for most of the weekend, perhaps even until Monday, January 18.

Civil Protection reminded the population to avoid making fires in the open, as well as to take proper precautions and if possible to stay at home.

"According to the forecast, what we are expecting is that this Thursday afternoon we will start to have strong gusts of wind, mainly in Tecate and Sierra de Juárez, however, by Friday if we observe that we could also have gusts in the urban areas of the state, even as far as the deep southern part of Baja California".

Due to the arrival of the cold front No. 27, this forecast will be accompanied by frosts in the mountainous areas of the region, with temperatures between 14 and 23 degrees Fahrenheit.
