Tijuana appeared this Saturday, January 9, in the top 20 in terms of the number of active coronavirus cases in Mexico. Due to this, the state government said that one option to stop infection could be to apply economic sanctions to those who do not use the mask correctly .

According to what was initially stated, not using a mask in public places could result in a fine between $400 and $1,300 pesos. However, despite these guidelines, they have not been published in the Official Gazette.

During the daily conference this Sunday morning, the state authorities considered that the use of face masks should be voluntary and that the measures of economic sanctions are unnecessary. They added that this type of action could lead to a curfew, which would hit the economy even harder.

So far, we can only wait to see if this is published in the Official State Gazette or in the Municipal Gazette. Once this action is taken, the police officers will have the authority to issue sanctions that would be applied in this way:

Verbal sanction
If the person explains that they do not have a mask, the authorities will offer one free of charge
If you do not accept the mask, you will be penalized
In case of not having resources to pay the established fine, citizens will be able to pay in community service hours, according to authorities. The only thing left for the population to do is to wait for the publication of this sanction in the aforementioned media, the question is: will it be published?
